have you ever stopped to wonder
your voice could go from silence to a caterwaul?
and you will know us by he trail of dead caterwaul
it’s coming together
in relative ways
and you will know us by the trail of dead relative ways
what did i say
how was i to know
was it your soft voice that said so?
and you will know us by the trail of dead caterwaul
I really do love this worlds apart album, this is probably the best song off it. it starts with a relentless attack of bass, guitar and drum and does not relent.
big at a time in my life when i just wanted to drown out a whole heap of awful thoughts with loud music. sort of worked.
this electric guitar hanging to my knees
got a couple of verses I can barely breathe
it’s all right, it’s o.k.
It’s coming together in relative ways yeah
and you will know them by the trail of dead relative ways
these guys make the list a few times hey? i wouldn’t think of them as one of my ‘best’ bands but i do really enjoy them. and the songs that have really hit the spot have really done it.
if i played guitar, i’d want to play this song. and like the trail of dead, play it as loud as i can.
and you will know them by the trail of dead stand in silence
my god, so much atmosphere.
i’ve included the intro, which made it onto the list earlier as part of this rip, it really does benefit from having it at the start.
when this band hits the spot, it’s epic. guitars, drums, the maudlin middle bit. fury.
they aren’t just rock and roll, there’s thought and spectacle in their music. cinema for the aural senses.
we’re so fucked up these days
we don’t know who to hate and who to praise
yet we consider this our suffering and pain
when we’re so privileged, a fact
we all forget about as
we go on whinging all over the place
and you will know us by the trail of dead worlds apart
an angry pissed off kind of song and sometimes life’s just not fair title track of a ripping album, worlds apart was where i first heard the band and their repeated entries on this list are a testament i think as to how good this period of the band were. epic tunes, great production, well crafted lyrics and smarts and feels.
Looking back at ‘91
Reflecting on those things we could have
Said and done
The dancing lights across a crowd
Remind us of another town
That’s dead and gone
It’s just dead and gone
75. and you will know us by the trail of dead summer 91
love these guys i really do. they’re the most un-american sounding american band. ‘worlds apart’ was one of those albums that just came along at the right time, i was i need of a comfort album or three as it were and there is just something about their audacious use of sound. great flow to the album too, so impaortnat.
piano and drums steal it in this one though.
I hear the sound of a voice inside my head
Saying things that I can’t understand
Telling me a life may soon be dead I wonder from what hand
The words they say are too hard to conceive
I try my best to never listen
Can’t you see I’m struggling to conceal
These thoughts from everyone?
and you will know us by the trail of dead so divided
songs that change and songs that build and songs that bridge. i wish the entire album was as good as this cracker of an opening. trail of dead i’ll sometimes refer to as rage against the parents, their issues aren’t those of the dispossessed or afflicted, but those of the people with time to think about things.
but no one does bridges like these guys. maybe abba. no one else really close.
